The Communications Specialist will serve as lead communicator for Furman University’s community, corporate, and thought leadership outreach through graduate, corporate, and professional programs, and in collaboration with Furman’s four institutes. This position will develop compelling narratives across media forms and produce content for a robust production calendar under the direction of the Marketing Director to drive program enrollment, grow brand awareness, and support the partnerships team. This role is ideal for a candidate with a nose for news, a high level of journalistic quality writing and production capabilities, and someone who thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Storytelling and Editing
- Conceptualize and develop media story opportunities for a robust production calendar.
- Ideate and develop content supporting Furman’s marketing strategy for graduate, corporate, and professional programs across all channels to meet enrollment, awareness, and partnership goals.
- Solicit and/or direct content from collaborative sources into the overall production calendar, inviting multiple voices into conversation.
- Edit content from all sources before release ensuring that content meets Furman’s brand standards, strategic goals, and ethical responsibility for clear, factual information sharing.
- Drive the creation of compelling content that speaks to diverse audiences including working professionals, employers, graduate school prospects, and community partners.
- Media Form Translation
- Ensure appropriate mix of written, visual, video/audio, and digital content.
- Translate content to be repurposed for different marketing uses including digital, print, social media, email, website, paid media, and public relations.
- Subject Matter Expertise
- Devise appropriate mix of content to serve Furman’s four institutes (key issues include sustainability, entrepreneurship, community health, and social/educational policy) and Furman’s graduate, professional, and corporate programs.
- Develop content knowledge to ensure accuracy in information produced and shared.
- Collaborate with students and employees across campus and community partners to develop complete and well-rounded content.
- Communications Support
- Provide general support for communications needs for events, programming, and other opportunities as assigned.
- Develop collateral materials and print ads to support recruitment and outreach goals.
- Devise additional communications and products as needed for center and team tasks.
- Collaboration
- Collaborate with the university’s broader marketing and communications teams to align messaging and maximize reach.
- Maintain consistent brand messaging across all content while tailoring communications for the appropriate audience.
- Collaborate early and often with institutes to develop advance plans for upcoming outreach opportunities.
