About the role
The Senior Adviser will support Ethiopian-led and Ethiopian-owned dialogue efforts on multiple, interconnected tracks.
Overview of the position:
Hours: Full time, 39 hours a week
Starting date: 1st of August 2025, or as soon as possible
Duration: limited contract until 31st of January 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on project funds
Location: Berlin, Germany (with frequent intercontinental travels)
Department & Reporting line: Regional Peace Support Department, reporting to Head of Unit and/or Senior Project Manager

Your main tasks:
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with key actors and project interlocutors in Ethiopia.
- Advise and accompany the project team and partners on project and process design.
- Provision of ongoing accompaniment, coaching and advice to project partners and stakeholders, including bilaterally or in small-scale formats.
- Advise, design and facilitate the implementation of dialogue and mediation support activities (including capacity building, consultative, dialogue, and problem-solving formats).
- Liaise with and provide advice to project partners, parties, as well as national and international stakeholders.
- Provision of written feedback and substantive inputs for strategy documents, concept notes, research and policy papers.
- 15+ years of work experience in the fields of peace and security, conflict transformation, peace mediation or peacebuilding.
- Proven track record of working in peace, dialogue and mediation support in different countries and ability to share reflections, lessons learned and best practices from first-hand experiences.
- Relevant work experience in (private) diplomacy and Track 1 peace processes.
- Experience in coaching and supporting insider mediators in sensitive conflict contexts.
- Relevant networks in Ethiopia/Horn of Africa.
Additional skills:
- Availability to travel to the Horn of Africa, at times also on short notice.
- Familiarity of working in discreet/confidential and/or high-level settings.
- Interest to work in and contribute to an intercultural team and a dynamic environment.
- Highly experienced and engaged community of practice.
