Teacher Assistant

About the Opportunity

This is a wonderfully unique position in the Mills College Children’s School at Northeastern University. The Children’s School follows a constructivist model of education for toddler through fifth grade programs. Teaching Assistants work closely with Preschool Head Teachers, and teaching team, to plan and supervise an exemplary curriculum for designated grade levels, using a reflective/inquiry approach to analyze and improve instruction.  

Representative Duties 

Responsibilities include: 

• Plan and implement a play-based, constructivist curriculum based on the best-available knowledge of children’s learning and linked to the Early Childhood foundations and California state frameworks. Regularly work with colleagues of the Children’s School to study children’s classroom learning. 

• Supports, supervises and ensures the safety and well-being of children in the program. 

• Organize and lead activities designed to promote children’s physical, cognitive, motor, social and emotional development. 

• Maintain active and open communications with the other members of the Children’s School staff. 

• Professionalism – As a teaching assistant in the Children’s school, the student will be a member of a team committed to advancing knowledge about teaching and to principled practice.  The position is based on the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with professional colleagues, parents, students, and children within a diverse and multicultural environment. 

Requirements 

• Two or more years recent successful ECE classroom teaching experience  

• 12 Units of qualifying Early Childhood Education coursework 

• TB Clearance and good health screening report 

• Pediatric CPR/first aid training. 

• Ability to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment

Temporary Summer Position

All positions are subject to a background check. Prior to the first date of employment, an applicant's background check must be cleared. 

This position is hourly, $28.00/hour
