Research Support Specialist I - Department of Neurobiology & Behavior - College of Arts & Sciences
Cornell UniversityAbout the role
The Oliva & Fernandez-Ruiz labs employ a multi-disciplinary approach, including the development and application of cutting-edge experimental and computational techniques, to understand the neural mechanisms that support learning and memory. We use large-scale electrophysiology and imaging to record hundreds to thousands of neurons across multiple brain areas in behaving rodents. To test the role of specific cell types and brain patterns we perform closed-loop optogenetic manipulations of neural activity, allowing refinement and updating of the theories guiding experiment. Overall, our research aims to understand the neural circuit mechanisms of cognitive functions in health and disease.
The Research Support Specialist will provide support with studies of brain activity in rodents and general lab management tasks. This involves carrying out experiments with rodents (surgery and recordings of brain signals on mice and/or rats) and communication with animal CARE for proper compliance with animal protocol activities. In addition, it involves supporting PIs tasks related to lab organization, ordering of supplies and submission of reimbursements as well as communication with department administrative team.
