Who will you be working with?

The mission of the Fleet Innovation & Transformation team is to accelerate fleet transformation by consistently providing compelling solutions and innovative technologies that improve reliability, sustainability, and performance.

How will you make a difference?

The engineer in this role will lead and support locomotive modernization, NPI and controls revitalization projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business.  In this role you will be responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, and contribute to the overall business strategy.  The role also includes engineering factory support, which comprises of build support, troubleshooting complex issues and performing or supporting engineering validation testing.  You will be the engineering focal point, supporting manufacturing through build and test, while serving as the conduit to other project engineers on issues and potential solutions. You will also support projects from conception to customer delivery by being a main engineering interface between the product teams, engineering design, and manufacturing implementation.  The expectations for this role include developing and maintaining clear communication with all project stakeholders; displaying problem solving capabilities on engineering tasks; exhibiting a positive and team first attitude; and working with a team of senior engineers to gain technical knowledge and expertise.

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science

· At least 2 years of engineering experience

Desired Characteristics:

· Master’s degree in engineering

· Six Sigma training

· Strong electrical/mechanical design and analytical background

· Familiarity with manufacturing processes

· Basic knowledge of locomotive systems, interactions, and customers

· Ability to drive projects to completion

· Strong oral and written communication skills

· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

· Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization

What will your typical day look like?

· Excel in a lean mission-based team environment though optimized designs, validation scope, and customer focused results

· Provide technical leadership for a team of engineers for all product design aspects of the assigned NPI and/or locomotive modernization projects

· Deliver strong and concise requirements and product definition to supporting engineering team

· Provide analytical analysis of overall system design with focus on design rigor and improvements

· Knowledge of engineering processes and tools (QSW, DOORS, PLM, Reliance)

· Organize and perform system level validation plans on products

· Create Bill of Materials for various product lines of modernization and aftermarket opportunities

· Create modification and factor support documents as required

· Support, communicate, and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as commercial, proposals, manufacturing, sourcing, services, reliability, global engineering, and systems engineering

· Support service programs, fulfillment, controls revitalization and New Product Introduction (NPI)

· Engineering factory support lead with focus on build, testing, troubleshooting and validation support

$60,700.00-$83,400.00
