About the role

POSITION SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Group Lead is responsible for coordinating the activities and labor for the printing department and directing several printing department cells in order to ensure material and information flow. The Group Lead works with Cell Leaders, Technical Support, Scheduling, and various other Printing Team Members to achieve printing production targets, to support and contribute to continuous improvement within the department, and to ensure the working environment is fair, equitable and non-discriminatory. This position is also responsible for food safety and quality procedures to ensure that the Company’s objectives for food safety and quality meet or exceed customers’ and regulatory agencies’ requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:


Manage Printing Team Members
• Coordinate with Shift Supervisor to prepare and update labor allocation for the shift.
• Assign and distribute work responsibilities ensuring workload is balanced for presses in overloaded cells to under loaded cells.
• Meet with the Shift Supervisor prior to the start of the shift to review absences and back-up strategies, and prioritize shift needs.
• Hold Cell Leaders accountable to the performance targets for the cell.
• Coordinate new hire and team member training within the department.

Manage Material and Information Flow
• Accurately schedule, post, and resource print jobs daily and communicate scheduling changes with Cell Lead.
• Identify and correct scheduling, material, and information issues that impact information or material flow.
• Conduct regular walks around the cells, checking each press for:
◦ Safety Concerns
◦ Equipment status
◦ Schedule status
◦ Jobs running at correct speed
◦ Production issues
◦ 5S and workplace organization
◦ Proper use of trending trays
• Coordinate with Cell Leaders to resolve and/or escalate issues causing downtime greater than ½ hour and complete appropriate maintenance Work Orders.
• Follow up on any DPMU in a timely manner.
• Determine and report the root cause of any production issues, the corrective action taken, and any follow up action required.
• Be aware of any planned downtime, e.g. PM’s or scheduled maintenance.

Communicate and Report
• Attend shift changeover meetings daily to understand and plan priorities and needs for upcoming shift including new job approvals, printing tests, shift complications, schedule changes, etc.
• Utilize the two-way device to communicate with team members and Leads across shifts.
• Attend daily Cell Leader Meeting prepared to review quality, delivery, and productivity issues from the previous day, the current state of the cells, and production concerns.
• Ensure the Cell Leads have completed the end-of-shift routines, collect Cell Lead reports, and record appropriate information on the Group Lead Shift Report.

Quality, Safety, and GMP
• Follow all safety rules and procedures
• Comply with all housekeeping and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
• Assist in the correction of unsafe acts or conditions
• Enforce all Quality system procedures
• Report any and all deficiencies to the Supervisor

Ensure Adherence to Policies and Procedures
• Treat all Team Members according to the Code of Conduct
• Ensure standard work is being followed within each cell through regular audits

Serve as Back-Up to Shift Supervisor
• Handle Shift Supervisor responsibilities in their absence.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


Educational Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Minimum Experience/Field: 5 years’ experience as an Operator
Courses Required: None
Computer Skills: Good PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Physical Requirements:
Communication Skills: Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills
Additional Education/Experience/Skills: Pass the 8-Color Printer Exam. Ability to coordinate multiple activities at the same time. Certification in TWI training strongly preferred.

CORE COMPETENCIES FOR THIS POSITION:


• Proficient in Printing Press operating skills, tear down, wash, set-up of printing presses
• Ability to run all lid and base presses.
• Ability to accurately update downtime information.
• Proficient in color match & registration on all lid and base presses with ability to monitor product quality and adjust.
• Skilled in diagnosing printing problems and initiating appropriate corrective action.
