Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist I to support soil and groundwater investigations and remediation projects in accordance with Comprehensive Environmental Response, compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, various NCDEQ Division of Waste Management Programs and other regulatory programs.

The selected candidate will conduct field tasks, including site investigations, drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sample collection, and related work. The candidate may also provide office support for data management, report preparation, and maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.

AECOM ’s Remediation, Restoration and Redevelopment Practice delivers innovative and often complex solutions to meet our clients’ objectives. Because we address many different impacted sites – from munitions to PFAS to algae blooms and beyond – every project in our global practice is different.

The job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, groundwater, and remediation system data, soil logging, groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging, and oversight of field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.

  • Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation.

  • Supporting office tasks, including data analysis and report preparation.

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays.

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science or Geology or other related degree

  • Valid US Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.

  • Ability to travel up to 75% for fieldwork. Ability to travel out-of-State to complete field work. Position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina and will require overnight travel.

  • As a condition of employment, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain medical clearance for driving and wearing a respirator

  • As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a drug screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical skills including Database, GIS, CAD, visualization software skills are preferred

  • OSHA 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training

  • Proficient computer skills: Word, Excel, ArcGIS, EQuIS are desirable.

  • Excellent oral or written communication skills

  • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (North Carolina locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000.
