A Day in the Life

This exciting role will support the Peripheral Vascular Operating Unit, focusing on minimally invasive approaches, devices, and therapies that treat patients with Peripheral and Carotid Artery Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease, Superficial and Deep Venous Diseases, and Peripheral Embolization. The Technical Sourcing Program Manager will engage with consistent processes to lead the reduction of overall supply risk and drive the adoption of capable technologies & sources in New Product Development resulting in predictable supply & competitiveness through full product launch. Technical Sourcing is responsible for the timely execution of all TS project deliverables in the Product Development Process (PDP).

Global Technical Sourcing (GTS) is the primary integration point linking Global Supply Management (GSM) with Technology and New Product Development (NPD) Project Teams aligning Medtronic Product and Supplier Technology Roadmaps. GTS accelerates innovation through suppliers to create a sustainable competitive advantage.

As the Program Manager-Technical Sourcing, you will be the primary Sourcing point of contact for Technology and New Product Development (NPD) Project Teams aligning Medtronic Product and Supplier Technology Roadmaps. The role involves strategic engagement with New Product Development, Global Supply Management, Operations, and Suppliers. 

You will:

  • Lead, drive, and project manage Supplier Identification, Evaluation, Selection, Development, Qualification, and Product Launch Ramp-up in line with Category and Product Development Strategies and preferred supplier segmentation.

  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate, develop, qualify, and manage supplier projects for new product development programs.

  • Lead, track, and project manage improvements in procured component Supply Risk, Quality, Material Cost, and Response / Lead Time for the full Device procured Bill of Material (for both new and legacy components) in NPD. 

  • Oversee and manage the supplier aspects of projects and serve as a liaison between Ops-Core Team Member, project management, and project team.

  • Develop and track supplier-related project progress and develop resolutions to meet schedule, budget, cost, productivity, quality, and functionality goals and objectives.

  • Communicate with stakeholders and obtain stakeholder engagement to ensure the suppliers and components meet business needs.

  • Support Launch Readiness and Transfer to Operations. Lead Component Sourcing Responsibility Transfers Post Qualification (to High Volume Facilities and Operations - transition from Technical Sourcing to local Site Sourcing and Category Management.

  • Identify potential new sources in Technologies where Category Strategies do not yet exist.

  •  Partner and drive suppliers to ensure components are designed for reliability, manufacturability, and cost. Define supplier objectives and communicate design requirements.

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant technical and/or sourcing experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant technical and/or sourcing experience.

Nice to Have:

  • Broad experience in manufacturing processes and development of material/component replacement initiatives.

  • Knowledgeable in design, production, and supplier-related efforts for medical device development.

  • Ability and willingness to travel: 10-25%

  • Extensive relevant experience in project management and supplier-related negotiation skills.

  • Proficient business acumen and the ability to influence program objectives in a matrix organization.

  • PMI Certification.

  • Skilled in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies with expertise in Design for Reliability and Manufacturability.

  • Proficient experience in supplier management, negotiation, and overall supply chain processes.

  • Proven communication, leadership, and interpersonal and team-building skills.
