Performs treatment planning, dose calculation, device fabrication and other support tasks needed for radiation therapy.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Gathers needed data for treatment planning during simulation.
2. Creates treatment plans that meet the prescriptions provided by the physician and guidelines provided by the senior physics staff.
3. Performs dose calculations based on treatment plan approved by the physician.  
4. Coordinates with radiation therapists to ensure agreement of planned and actual treatment fields. 5. Participates in brachytherapy treatments by performing needed treatment planning, dose calculation, source handling and delivery.
6. Performs measurements as needed to verify the correct implementation of treatment plans, to document the radiation levels in the vicinity of patients, and to verify removal of radioactive material following brachytherapy.
7. Maintains and processes a variety of standard computer based and manual records, data and reports, such as calibration records and documentation on receipt, use, and disposal of radioactive source material in the custody of the Department of Radiation Oncology.
8. Assists in providing radiation protection instruction for persons caring for and visiting patients.  
9. Participates in the weekly chart rounds. 
10. The ability and willingness to respond to the work situations, which may require evening and weekend work.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, or graduation from medical dosimetry education program recognized by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists, or a registered radiation therapist who will undergo completion of one to two years of advanced on-the-job training and work experience in medical dosimetry under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist.  

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Knowledge of basic radiation physics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and human anatomy. 
2. Ability and willingness to handle radioactive materials in accordance with the precepts of the Radiation Control Program, as well as Hospital approved materials routinely used for patient positioning and treatment field modification.
