About the Role

The New York Times is looking for a Manager, Data & Insights, Marketing. As part of the Data and Insights Group (DIG), you will join a large community of accomplished data analysts who partner with Product, Engineering, and Design teams across the business. You’ll work on our Owned Media Analytics team to help hit quarterly and long-term subscriber acquisition goals and engagement goals from channels such as Email, Display, Audio, and Print. More specifically, you’ll help monitor and evaluate NYT’s owned Marketing efforts. You’ll also have the opportunity to conduct generative research to identify opportunities for future improvements. You will report to the Senior Manager, Owned Marketing Analytics.

Responsibilities:

  • You will work with the media team to define strategy for email engagement programs aimed at introducing subscribers to our products, and preventing churn
  • You will be an advocate for The Athletic marketing and data teams to integrate their tracking and analysis with existing NYT infrastructure
  • You will be the data subject matter expert in the room on large-scale projects involving product, marketing, and engineering teams to improve the quality of data collection, and integrity of our analytics pipelines
  • You will democratize data and insights through skillful data structuring and use of visualization tools.
  • You will support data-oriented analyses, produce insights useful to the business, and present to partners and leaders across the organization
  • You will facilitate a continuous experimentation strategy, setting measurable hypotheses, counter metrics, and working with the team to break-down and understand results
  • You will lead all phases of analytic work from defining problems to presenting results
  • You will demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working on data analytics or data engineering teams where you generated insights that drove decision-making, and developed tools that democratized data for partners throughout the company 

  • 5+ years of experience working on large projects, with technical teams, involving lots of stakeholders and coordination.

  • 3+ years of experience using SQL and working in Google BigQuery, AWS, or other big data environments

  • 5+ years of experience with data visualization tools like Mode or Tableau

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with digital experimentation

  • Experience with CRM teams, Marketing or Email Operations

  • Mastery of version control (Github, code review)

The annual base pay range for this role is between:$120,000$135,000 USD
