Coder I Non Certified - Helen Keller Hospital, Medical Records, Full Time, 1st Shift

Overview

Assigns diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records.  Enters abstract data in computer and generates reports as required.

Responsibilities

• Provides ongoing cross training of essential functions.
• Assigns accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to outpatient accounts.
• Assists with charge master maintenance.
• Enters charge data.
• Assists with medical necessity documentation.
• Logs additional documentation to support coding assignment.
• Inputs accurate abstract data into computer system for each account coded.
• Assists with other related duties as assigned to include performance improvement and orientation for new employees and students; flexible to schedule; performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Education:

High school or equivalent preferred.

Experience: 

Previous technical experience preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities: 

Capable of working overtime as required; able to read, write and speak the English language.  Ability to work with physicians, physician office personnel and hospital departments in a highly professional setting.
