GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Kennel Technician is responsible for the overall care of all animals within the shelter. The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease or discontent
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas of the shelter daily.
- Perform needed cleaning and maintenance of all equipment and tools used in job assignment.
- Follow all shelter procedures
- Report signs of illness, disease, injury to Vet Tech and/or Supervisor.
- Feed animals according to shelter procedure, including special diets as needed.
- Assist Vet Tech with exams, testing and administration of medications for incoming and current shelter animals.
- Assist Animal Control Officers with intake and transfer of animals to shelter vet for surgeries.
- Clean and sanitize all cages, kennels, runs and all animal areas. Maintain building and grounds for cleanliness and proper sanitation to avoid spread of disease.
- Wash and dry towels, blankets, etc.
- Patrol shelter grounds daily, picking up any trash found.

Additional duties include: works under the direction of the Animal Control Supervisor.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Apply skills and knowledge in controlling/handling individual animal temperament.
- Ability to gain animal confidence when working with them for treatment, grooming or transport.
- Housekeeping and laundry duties for all areas
- Groundskeeper ability to cut grass, pick up garbage and weed eat. .
- Cleaning and disinfecting methods and the care and use of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Understand and carryout oral and written instructions.
- Familiar with animals, knowledge or animal behavior.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- The educational requirement for this position is: Completion of high school/GED.
- Education may be substituted for experience.
- Related-experience required: 1 year. Prior experience in an animal shelter is a plus.
- Experience may be substituted for education.

This position requires lifting:

Vision Requirements:
This position has the following special vision requirements:
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
- Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
- Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
- Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point)
- Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
- Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
