Job Description

Ohio State’s department of public safety is hiring Security Surveillance Specialists (University Classification: Alarm and Video Monitoring Officers) to join its communications and security technology division. Security Surveillance Specialists play a critical role in the safety of the campus population and security of property by monitoring cameras, alarm systems and surveillance equipment for intrusions, suspicious activities and alarms.

Working in pairs and alongside public safety dispatchers, surveillance specialists are responsible for monitoring equipment and protective devices to verify security and safety of university buildings, grounds and property and ensuring their protection against damage, loss, fire, sabotage, and theft. These positions report equipment malfunctions, water leaks, evidence of breaking and entering or equipment damage and other conditions requiring attention. Responsibilities include monitoring intrusion detection equipment and maintaining communication with the Unified Communications Center and other security and law enforcement personnel. Surveillance specialist also create reports and assists in investigation of fires, crimes, unusual incidents, complaints, injuries, accidents or suspicious and unauthorized personnel.

Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, Security Surveillance Specialists are part of a strong team of public safety servants including dispatchers, police officers, detectives and crime analysts who protect the university in real-time as well as through research and analyzing CCTV footage and other information. Critical thinkers who pay close attention to detail and enjoy solving problems are encouraged to apply. Security Surveillance Specialists work a varied schedule and are subject to 24-hour call-in. The positions are considered essential to the university, meaning your presence will be required regardless of the existence of an emergency condition, and whose absence from duty could endanger the safety and well-being of others and campus property. Dress is business casual.

Required Qualifications

• High school graduate or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
• Successful completion of background investigation and drug test.
• Ability to communicate effectively, including reading and writing common vocabulary.
• Ability to type and operate a computer.

Additional Information:

This position pays $19.67 per hour, with a shift differential available where applicable.
