Job Description Summary

               

Under the supervision of a Team Leader or the Quality Manager and the direction of the QA Specialist, this position is responsible for monitoring all incoming raw product, checking it for internal and external defects, insect damage, cold damage, color, size, and other pertinent information. This position is primarily an 8-hour shift rotation (Days and Swing). However, 12-hour shifts (Days and Nights) are required when dictated by raw product grading needs.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Sort and inspect raw product for length and diameter and accurately report the findings.

  • Inspect raw product for internal and external damage/defects and be able to accurately report the findings including categorizing defects based on size.

  • Inspect the raw product for excess rot.

  • Inspect the raw product for insect damage.

  • Weigh raw product and understand numbers that are on the scale to accurately record them.

  • Input data from quality grades into computer systems. 

  • Communicate raw product quality with Team Leaders.

  • Operates equipment such as: barrel washer, conveyors, peeler, and a cutter.

  • Keeps work area clean.

  • Performs end of cycle clean up on raw product grading equipment. (Requires the use of chemicals.)

  • Complete Foreign Material Reports for all FM found at raw receiving inspection stations.

  • Complete minimum amount of safety engagement as described by the safety department including Because We Cares and Daily Risk Assessments.

  • Participates in the VeLOCity process through the Shift DS, CIL’s, and Centerline checks.

  • Performs other duties that may be assigned as need.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and understand both verbal and written instructions.

  • Must have a basic mechanical aptitude.

  • Must have basic computer skills for data entry.

  • Understands basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Physical Environment/Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.    

  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature.  

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments to include:  loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies.  

  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.    

  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.    

  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.  Ability to operate work related equipment.  

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  

  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation.  

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis.
