Job Description

The Director, Maintenance and Utilities Engineering position serves as the business unit manager for the Packaging Maintenance, Utilities, Site Services, and Site Engineering teams for the Wilson site. This position works closely with other leaders as a member of the Wilson Site Leadership Team.

 

Primary responsibilities for this position include providing tactical and strategic direction to the Maintenance and Utilities team in support of site operations. This includes ensuring that business objectives are met, a high standard for Quality and EHS compliance is maintained, and the team operates efficiently and within budget. The position will also be expected to promote continuous improvement within the team and maintain an inclusive and positive culture.

 

Additional activities, responsibilities, and competencies include but are not limited to the following:

  • Accountable for ensuring all processes performed and managed by the Maintenance and Utilities Engineering Team are in compliance with cGMP and Safety, Environmental, Labor, and Industrial Health regulations.
  • Investigate and resolve compliance gaps identified through the audit program or deviation investigations.
  • Monitor Maintenance and Utilities Engineering performance to identify areas for improvement, apply appropriate strategies, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Direct Maintenance and Utilities Engineering Team activities.  Activities include shop floor support, project management, managing actions within assigned due dates, development the team budget, control expenses to meet budget, manage maintenance and calibration for plant equipment and instruments, as well as providing technical support to resolve equipment and performance problems. 
  • Manages capital projects for site ensuring that project estimates are accurate, projects are executed against spending budget, delivered on time, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for equipment reliability and uptime for the packaging shop floor. Actively monitors equipment performance and downtime and works to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Responsible for the coordination and execution of our Manufacturing Division Wilson activities regarding the operation and maintenance of all plant utilities including boilers, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, electrical sub-stations, compressed air, potable and distilled water, dust collection, wastewater, storm water, and all related distribution systems. 
  • Directs the maintenance of all utilities, monitoring systems and instrumentation.
  • Develops and executes site energy conservation programs focused on sustainability.
  • Responsible for directing the evaluation, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of all necessary measures to comply with government and company regulations pertaining to environmental protection and control, and the site's safety program. 
  • Responsible for scheduling and providing optimum customer service in supplying utilities services to site operations, meeting all quality and regulatory requirements with minimum downtime.   
  • Responsible for directing all facilities/utilities engineering and facilities maintenance for the Wilson site including utilities, facilities, and building repairs utilizing internal team and service contracts. This includes preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, routine maintenance, and construction projects. 
  • Responsible for directing Site Services (through 3rd party partners), including security, fire protection, life safety, custodial, lawn maintenance, pest control, uniform services, solid and hazardous waste, and stockroom operations. 
  • Responsible for directing all Maintenance Planning activities, utilizing all systems designed for effective measurement, analysis and control of Wilson plant maintenance activities, including analysis of preventative maintenance and management of spare parts. 
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of required plans for plant emergencies and mobilization.  Coordinates with Wilson Site personnel and external agencies prior to, during, and after emergencies. 
  • Provide leadership to the team including coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Define and staff positions as necessary to execute Maintenance and Utilities duties at the Wilson site.
