The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.
Richmond and Henrico Health Districts is searching for a Community Health Worker (CHW) Supervisor to support the community and population-based CHWs in Richmond and Henrico. This position would provide leadership for our CHWs located in our seven Richmond City Resource Centers, located in low-income housing developments, as well as the Henrico CHW population-based team, which focuses on the Refugee and Latino populations and low-income housing communities in Henrico. This role will provide direct supervision for 4 CHW Seniors and oversee a team of up to 12 total CHWs. In addition to the supervision of community health workers, this position will support CHW program design and implementation by promoting the core competencies of CHW work, including health education, navigation, outreach, and advocacy. This role will collaborate with an interprofessional team to implement community health initiatives, including nurses and leadership team members. Additional responsibilities include assisting with data gathering for grant requirements, developing community partnerships, monitoring the quality of community health worker services, case management oversight, and monitoring of the CHW operations budget. This position’s main office will be located within a public housing community and will primarily function off-site throughout Richmond and Henrico communities to adequately inform this role. This position will need to obtain a community health worker certification within 1 year of hire if not already certified.
Position plays an integral lead role in the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of community-based public health initiatives. Collaborates with District staff and community partners to promote health & prevent disease. Provides direct supervision to the District general community health educators and leads prevention programs. The position will assist the District Health Director to engage and guide local policy makers in their efforts to address and develop policies that impact public health. Provides public information and leads public relations activities for health district or office.

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge that supports assigned program
Excellent organization & presentation skills; strong networking abilities & communication skills
Ability to act independently, manage a multi-disciplinary state-wide program, develop goals, and evaluate progress
Experience with grant writing, budget management, and supervision of staff
Knowledge and experience in use of computers and computer applications, including Internet, Microsoft Office, and various Mail applications
May travel and work some weekends and/or evening hours
Additional Considerations
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) for Health Educators preferred
Previous experience in community health and the assessment/improvement process preferred
Bilingual in Spanish and English
