About the Role:

  • The Embedded Systems team is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Custom Silicon Software Technical Program Manager to join our dynamic team
  • In this role, the Custom Silicon Software Technical Program Manager will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the software development aspects of our key custom silicon projects
  • The ideal candidate is someone with a strong technical background, exceptional program management skills, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of custom silicon software programs

What you’ll be doing:

Planning

  • Drives the formulation and review of department roadmaps and objectives on a quarterly and monthly cadence
  • Effectively collaborate with hardware, program management office, and suppliers to define project goals, milestones, and deliverables
  • Partner with System Engineers to turn requirements and technical specs into achievable implementation roadmaps, including planning timelines and landmarks and identifying cross-team dependencies
  • Work with Engineering Managers to ensure teams tackle a balanced assignment of critical initiatives, iterative improvements, and proactive engineering quality investments
  • Support calculation of team capacity vs estimated workload, and ensure the team can deliver on their commitments

Execution

  • Ensure successful execution of custom silicon software programs by monitoring progress, identifying risks, and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Continuously improve execution by upleveling our reporting, milestones definition and overall program management practice in this area
  • Promote effective communication within the Technical Program Management group to efficiently execute, filter, summarize reporting across the department to resolve, bring up issues and celebrate wins
  • Establish confidence from partner teams to continuously minimize distractions or conflicts and push groups to improve their output
  • Identify potential risks and issues related to custom silicon software development and develop mitigation plans to address them

Technical

  • Use technical judgment in working with large, cross functional engineering teams
  • Work with Technical Leads on design decisions, and chip in to the department design reviews to ensure we continue to raise our technical standards

What you must have:

  • 5+ years of technical experience (2+ years of Embedded Systems and/or silicon development programs)
  • Supervise record of driving execution across engineering org and job functions (Hardware, Systems, Test, Software)
  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mechatronic or similar technical field (former engineer) 
  • Experience leading complex fast-paced safety critical initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations, often with conflicting priorities and schedules
  • Proven experience in software program management, preferably in custom silicon or semiconductor industries
  • Self motivation and passion to manage your teams, encourage standard methodologies, and constantly improve
  • Passionate about self-driving car technology and its impact on the world

Bonus Points!

  • Proven experience in software program management, preferably in custom silicon or semiconductor industries is highly valued 
  • Experience running the software development for a new silicon program (device drivers, firmware, management of IP blocks, etc.) 
  • Exposure to integration testing and performance optimization for silicon 
  • Experience with safety critical
