Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Retina Biochemistry & Disease Modeling Laboratory, the Staff Research Associate III (SRA III) is responsible for carrying out research projects focused on the biochemistry and cell biology of cultured retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and induced pluripotent stem cell–derived RPE (iPSC-RPE) from human cells and mouse models.

The major analytical tools utilized in this work include: (1) imaging and analysis of samples using laser scanning confocal microscopy, super-resolution (OMX-SR), and spinning disk microscopy systems; (2) immunoblotting via Western blot analysis; and (3) retinoid and bisretinoid extraction and analysis by HPLC.

The SRA III is responsible for performing image acquisition and analysis in collaboration with other researchers. The SRA III is also responsible for maintaining laboratory instruments and providing technical support to pre- and post-doctoral fellows.

This is a limited position that may convert to career.

Salary Range: $71848.08 – 115549.92 Annually

Required:

  • Ability of preparing retinal pigment epithelial cell cultures of the highest quality to resembles cells in vivo.
  • Retinoids/Bisretinoids Extraction and HPLC analysis
  • Immunocytochemistry
  • Protein Analysis by immunoblotting
  • Responsibility of operating three microscopies: laser scanning confocal, super resolution (OMX-SR) and spinning disk that serve as core instruments in the Jules Stein Eye Institute.
  • Ability to present scientific data
  • Ability to perform laboratory maintenance
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to utilize an IBM PC and Mac


Preferred:

  • Ability to write concisely and clearly, edit, and proofread to ensure grammatically correct and factual correspondence
  • Skill in scientific writing, literature review
