HUALAPAI PREFERENCE Position:                     Swamper/Packer Department:              Hualapai River RunningClassification:            Non-ExemptSalary Range:            H2Supervisor:                Crew Supervisor Disclaimer: Position Description is not meant to encompass all aspects of position, other duties may be assigned. Position Summary:Assist with rafting trip preparations. Prepare and load pontoons, frames, motors and other pieces of equipment and supplies on to transport truck. Pack and load food, drinks and snacks. At launch point, ensure all required items are aboard raft. At take-out point assist with de-rigging of pontoons, frames, motors and all equipment and supplies. Assist with loading equipment on to trucks for return. Greet, orientate and provide information to customers regarding their rafting trip, geology of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River, the history and culture of the Hualapai and other points of interest. Answer any other questions regarding Grand Canyon West locations and operations.   Assist guests loading and unloading onto the rafts. Help create an environment that lets customers focus on the excitement of their trip. Ensure guests have an outstanding experience. Clean River Running shop area. Knowledge and Abilities:
  1. Ability to physically assist with loading and unloading of all equipment, rig pontoons, frames, motors and supplies.
  2. Ability to interact with guests and tour groups and provide prompt, outstanding customer service while providing information.
  3. Ability to communicate in a clear concise manner while being personable, courteous and friendly.
  4. Ability to discuss all aspects of the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River, Grand Canyon West, Hualapai history and culture and the rafting trip experience.
  5. Ability to work in a team environment, multi-task efficiently and maintain positive working relationships.
  6. Possess a Food Handlers’ card or acquire within 30 days.
  7. Attend and complete Hualapai River Running Guide training.
 Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Assist River Guides with rafting trips by helping to prepare and load pontoons, frames, motors and other equipment and supplies with particular attention given to the packing and loading of food, drinks and snacks. At launch point, ensure all equipment and supplies are aboard raft.
  2. At take-off point, assist with de-rigging of pontoons, frames, motors and equipment used in rafting trip and assist with loading onto equipment trucks.
  3. Greet and orientate guests regarding their river trip and provide information regarding the Grand Canyon and Colorado River, Grand Canyon West locations and Hualapai history and culture.
  4. Assist loading and unloading guests onto rafts.
  5. Observe sound health and sanitation practices, ensure meals are properly stored, packed and prepared.
  6. Engage all guests on raft trips and create an environment that lets guests experience the excitement of their trip.
  7. Assist in cleaning River Running shop area.
  8. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
 Qualifications:
  1. Good oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Must be a student in good standing in school and at least 16 years of age.
  3. Must attend and complete HRR Youth Training Program.
  4. Valid Food Handlers’ card or acquire within 30 days.
  5. Customer service experience is preferred.
  6. Preference given to Hualapai Tribal members.
 Working Conditions:Position requires ability to work outdoors for long periods of time, regardless of weather conditions. Must be able to work varying schedules, weekends and holidays. Must be able to perform strenuous activities and lift heavy loads.  Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen and extensive background check may be required.
