Description
The Computational Solid Mechanics laboratory lead by Professor Mostafa Mobasher in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the field of computational mechanics and computational geomechanics. Th project will focus on the development of computational models for non-linear and Multiphysics solid mechanics models using innovative numerical methods.
Research project
The successful applicant is expected to work and lead multiple research projects aimed at improving the computational efficiency of damage and fracture mechanics algorithms for multi-fracture propagation scenarios in Multiphysics conditions with multiscale considerations. The applications of this research extend to several fields, including: geomechanics, biomechanics, mechanical and structural applications, and others. The Post-Doctoral Associate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students. The Research Associate is expected to continuously document research progress in the form of scientific publications to be submitted to reputable journals.
The candidate will also work on individualized research projects under the supervision of the faculty during the duration of his/her tenure.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
A successful applicant must have a PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; with a focus on Computational Mechanics or a related field. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a strong research profile and extensive research experience in the development of computational solution algorithms for linear, nonlinear mechanics problems, including multiphysics problems, non-linear problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Multiphysics modeling in solid mechanics framework
- Experience in non-linear solid material response and fracture modeling
- Experience in machine-learning modeling for solid mechanics applications
- Experience in the development and coupling of numerical methods for solid mechanics modeling
- Experience in modeling geomechanical systems
- Experience in modeling hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration
