POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Provides specialized, licensed nursing services to patients according to established protocols. Provides medical assistance in primary care to patients, including physical examinations, diagnosis and treatment under the general supervision of a physician.
DETAILED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct nursing to patients through therapeutic and preventative health care with the support and/or supervision of the physician by established protocols (supervisory provider does not need to be on premise, but be available for consult).
- Performs basic physical assessments; requests or performs needed laboratory tests, special screenings (i.e., pregnancy tests, pap smears, ultrasound) and interpret results; manages problems or illness according to established protocols or refers to physician.
- Obtains medical histories and evaluates for proper care.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, blood counts, x-rays, smears and cultures, EKGs, ultrasound, fetal monitoring, etc.
- Plans and conducts family, patient and health education in all phases of care provided.
- Responsible for reporting and following up on all communicable diseases, identified per Florida and CDC guidelines.
- Measures and records vital signs of patients, as needed.
- Counsel patients about disease processes, lifestyle risk factors and promotes wellness.
- Collects data for BCRR reporting, i.e., diabetics, high blood pressure, Pap Smears, etc.
- Makes arrangements for referrals and appointments for patients.
- Within established protocols, gives medication and treatment for diagnosed illness and makes adjustments in medication according to variations in patient's response.
- Provides family planning services.
- Performs related duties, as required.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of communicable diseases, incubation period, transmission and prevention.
- Knowledge of the broad field of medicine and community health required to provide primary care within FHC.
- Knowledge of nurse practitioner procedures and the procedural guide delineating such procedures in order to ensure provision of effective and safe primary medical care.
- Skill in the performance of histories and physical examination, in making diagnosis and in providing appropriate treatment and referral.
- Skill in the use of nursing tools in common practice.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an NLN accredited school of professional nursing.
- Licensure in the State of Florida as a Professional Nurse and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Masters Degree in Nursing from an NLN accredited school preferred.
- Three to five years of professional nursing experience, preferably including some experience in the community or public health field.
- Certification as an ARNP by a professional nursing organization is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bilingual skills English/Spanish preferred.
- CPR certification preferred.
