About Clinton

 

Clinton, New Jersey is a picturesque Northeast town characterized by its timeless colonial architecture and natural beauty. It is also home to ExxonMobil’s Technology & Engineering Company (EMTEC), a facility comprised of 432 labs, 92 pilot plants and 850 offices. As one of the engines for innovation within our company, our Clinton facility employs some of the world’s leading minds in their respective fields, with over half of our workforce holding advanced degrees in engineering, chemistry and many more areas.

 

At our EMTEC Technology Center, we provide R&D support for our three main businesses: Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses. We research, develop and deliver differentiated, high-impact, game-changing technologies and products, foundations of our competitive advantage. We focus on both long-term fundamental research and knowledge building as well as shorter-horizon commercial applications. Our time is split between office and lab work, collaborating with research teams to refine concepts and fuel innovation.

What role you will play in our team

 

  • We are seeking a candidate to join a research team investigating global change questions using models of coupled human-natural systems at various scales.
  • The successful candidate must have a strong background and demonstrated scientific excellence, including a record of external publication, in one or more areas of global change science.
  • Experience developing and using earth system, energy system or integrated assessment models, as well as familiarity with how such approaches can be used to inform business or policy questions, is necessary.  
  • A PhD in geosciences, engineering, economics or a related discipline is required.  
  • Postdoctoral experience in an academic, industry, or government setting is highly desired.
  • The position is located in Annandale, NJ.

What you will do

 

  • Work independently, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to develop and execute a global change research agenda
  • Develop new models or apply state-of-the-art approaches as necessary to carry out novel research
  • Communicate research results and implications to relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Advise the corporation on relevant scientific and technical matters
  • Identify opportunities to engage leading external researchers and groups
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences
  • Engage with the broader global change research community to share findings, monitor external trends and communicate priorities

 

About You

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • PhD in geosciences, engineering, economics or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art models and approaches in one or more areas related to global change
  • Ability to identify and engage leading external experts on global change research
  • Experience translating complex scientic information into digestible insights for non-experts
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • Post-doctoral or related experience in a business or policy setting

  • Knowledge of climate policy and processes
