The Sr Director - Global Technical Sourcing (GTS) develops and executes group strategy for the Technical Sourcing function to support Operating Unit, Global Supply Management, New Product Development, and Research & Technology organizations; Technical Sourcing is the primary integration point linking Global Supply Management (GSM) with Technology and NPD Project Teams aligning Medtronic Product and Supplier Technology Roadmaps.

This position can be based out of a Medtronic site in Minnesota, Connecticut, Boston area, Colorado Campus, Memphis Campus or Orange County Campus.

We are seeking a visionary leader to drive strategic alignment and innovation within Technical Sourcing, ensuring seamless collaboration with Product Development and Technology leaders across our Operating Units and Portfolios. This role will focus on building a forward-thinking vision for Technical Sourcing that integrates with Operations Supply Management and Category Strategies, emphasizing early and impactful engagement during the Research and Technology phases. The ideal candidate will champion early supplier involvement, promote Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) methodologies, and ensure alignment with key performance indicators such as quality, supply continuity, technical advancement, risk mitigation, and cost targets. Additionally, this role will lead efforts to identify emerging technologies, foster the growth and development of Technical Sourcing talent, and standardize scalable processes to support innovation and operational excellence.

As the Sr. Director - Global Technical Sourcing, you will bring a strong understanding of Supply Management functions and processes, along with familiarity with Product Development cycles and Technology Development Phases, to drive alignment and innovation across the organization. Your proven experience in developing strategies and leveraging influence to achieve cross-functional alignment will be critical in fostering collaboration and advancing key initiatives. Additionally, your working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in driving process efficiencies and enhancing operational effectiveness will position you to lead transformative efforts and deliver impactful results.

You will:

  • Collaborate with Product Development and Technology leaders to identify and align on projects requiring Supply Management involvement.

  • Balance resource allocation across Development and Technology portfolios, ensuring early alignment with Research and Technology.

  • Align with Supply Management and Development leadership to address resource planning needs, including Annual Operating Plan (AOP) processes.

  • Advocate for resource needs with Project Managers and Senior Leadership, and develop staffing solutions as necessary.

  • Provide recommendations to improve Product Development practices and align Sourcing protocols with Development protocols for efficient Design History File (DHF) management.

  • Represent the Operating Unit in supplier interactions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals through influence and established relationships.

  • Mentor and guide Technical Sourcing staff, fostering professional growth and career development.

  • Review and approve Product Development Sourcing Strategies, offering strategic guidance throughout the development cycle.

  • Support the negotiation and execution of major technology development and service agreements.

  • Oversee the organizational structure, resource planning, and budgeting for the Technical Sourcing function.

Must-Have:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant sourcing/technical experience with a minimum of 10 years of managerial experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years of relevant sourcing/technical experience with a minimum of 10 years of managerial experience.
