Onsite - This position requires the employee to be onsite full time. The primary work location will be at the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.
The Role
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer for Localization & Mapping to join our Advanced Development team within the Robotics Engineering organization. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing software solutions for localization and mapping in autonomous systems. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to create innovative solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and safety of our autonomous systems.

You will play a key role in advancing our automation capabilities and ensuring that our localization and mapping systems are at the forefront of the industry.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and develop software solutions for localization and mapping in autonomous robotic systems.
- Implement algorithms for sensor fusion, state estimation, and map generation.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and control teams to ensure seamless integration of localization and mapping systems.
- Conduct simulations and tests to validate the performance and reliability of localization and mapping algorithms.
- Participate in feasibility studies and prototyping to explore new technologies and methodologies.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other teams within the Robotics Engineering organization.
- Work closely with the Chief Robotics Technologist to align localization and mapping development with the technological roadmap.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 5+ years of experience in designing and developing software for localization and mapping systems.
- Proficient in Python, C/C++, ROS, Git, Docker
- Experience with Linux-based embedded system software development
- Experience with SLAM, and ROS-based navigation tools
- Strong knowledge of sensor fusion, state estimation, and map generation algorithms.
- Experience in implementing and testing localization and mapping algorithms in autonomous systems.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in the robotics or automation industry.
- Knowledge of advanced localization and mapping methodologies and tools.
- Experience in prototyping and feasibility studies.
- Familiarity with the latest trends and technologies in localization and mapping systems for autonomous applications.
