Your Opportunity
One Temporary (Up to 14 months) Full Time Position.
Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Credit and Commodity Risk team.
Reporting to the Lead, Credit Risk, the Senior Specialist, Credit Risk is responsible for the management of a diverse portfolio of commodity and commercial counterparties and related credit risk activities.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Analyzing and assessing the financial condition and creditworthiness of new and existing counterparties, completing fulsome credit reviews in accordance with internal policies and work practices. Provide detailed analysis, recommendations, and authorizations (where applicable) for counterparty credit ratings and credit limits AND recommend and implement proactive exposure management and mitigation strategies.
- Monitoring the portfolio on a daily and periodic basis to actively manage over limit positions and ensure accurate exposure reporting for management use.
- Developing and providing training as required to cross-functional partners to promote the understanding of the credit risk management program.
- Providing input into Policy, Processes, and technology decisions impacting the Credit Risk group and where applicable, assist in the implementation of new business processes and procedures. In particular, assisting with the Middle Office transformation leveraging prior experience with credit systems, reporting and policy development.
- Fostering collaborative relationships with external counterparties and peers to facilitate commercial relations, knowledge sharing, and bilateral contract negotiations. Work closely with the credit team and other internal groups (front office, supply chain, legal and documentations) to create a cohesive and effective work dynamic.
- Participating in counterparty contract negotiations, which involves working cross-functionally with Front Office, Supply Chain, Legal and Documentation groups to ensure Capital Power agreement standards are maintained. Agreements include EEI, GasEDI, ISDAs, purchase and sale agreements, and supply agreements.
- Effectively and appropriately communicating with management, internal customers and external counterparties.
- Ensuring effective risk management practices by keeping informed of industry standards and addressing any material gaps. Develop, implement, and revise Credit Risk work practices and Policy to ensure compliance with standards, regulatory requirements, and mitigation of risks.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- University degree preferably B.Comm.
- MBA/CFA/CPA designation considered an asset.
Experience:
- 5+ years of related experience within credit risk management or commercial banking, with a strong understanding of corporate financial statements, credit underwriting, commodity trading, and also Supply chain agreements.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with Excel and Word and excellent analytical skills are required. Working knowledge of ETRM database configuration and content is also an asset.
- Experience negotiating Master and supply agreements a key asset
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
