Job Summary:

Location: Methodist Fremont Health - Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic
Address: 2560 N. Healthy Way Fremont, NE

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Responsible for helping patients gain access to their medical treatment, entering all pertinent billing data and assuring a clean bill.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Pre-Registration/Registration

  • Interview patients or their representative for obtaining personal information including insurance, and emergency contacts in a timely manner.
  • Pre-registers patients using the worklists and OB induction requests.
  • Signatures are obtained on all legal and required forms as appropriate as well as using approved scripting to explain what the patient is signing.
  • Able to use Recondo to verify patient’s insurance eligibility at the time of registration.
  • When working in the Emergency Department, Triage is called before asking the patient’s Date of Birth (DOB) or gathering demographics in order to be compliant with Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA).
  • Maintains an accuracy ratio of 85% after 3 months employment, 90% after 6 months employment, and 98% or better after 1 year employment.
  • Maintains knowledge of appropriate testing instructions, patient types,  order of physicians, accommodation and billing codes.

Education/Skills Development

  • Keeps up to date on all insurance plan prior authorization guidelines.
  • Makes every effort to attends all staff meetings, Town Hall meetings and special training sessions.
  • Maintains an up to date personal notes in order to work independently.

Communication Skills

  • Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thank You (AIDET) is used at each interaction with our patients, families and visitors.
  • Maintains a professional working relationship both within the department and with other departments   within the hospital, clinics and other facilities.
  • Answers the phone in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family member.

Positive First Impression

  • Adheres to the department dress code, appearance is neat and clean.  Wears hospital identification badge while on duty.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled .
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Keeps our patients as number one priority at all times.

Miscellaneous Clerical Duties

  • Update Reference Lab encounters.
  • Obtain signatures and updated encounters at the bedside while working  the ED or when admission papers are not signed at the time of registration.
  • Scan insurance cards, make admit packets, and audit signed forms for accuracy.

Personal Accountability

  • Treat fellow team members with respect and courtesy.
  • Do not start or get involved in department gossip.
  • Concerns with a team member or process is discussed in a calm manner with department Manager or Supervisor.
  • While working, enthusiasm and pride will be shown in my actions and behavior.

Job Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.


License/Certifications

  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) after one year of experience preferred.


Experience

  • Experience in a customer service related position required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience as Patient Access Professional preferred.


Skills

  • Knowledge in medical terminology and procedures
