About the role
As a Design Manager at Ware Malcomb, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the creative direction and technical excellence of a region. You will oversee the development and execution of design concepts and technical standards across internal initiatives and client-facing projects. Drawing on strong design methodology, ideation, and project development skills, you will help guide teams across multiple offices and project types. As design lead and a collaborative advisor, you will champion an integrative and holistic approach that ensures our teams are supported and our work reflects the highest standards of design excellence.

Your Role
- Oversee project creative process and design management.
- Provide design feedback to advance and solve for project goals and overall quality control.
- Client liaison for design aspect of the projects (in close collaboration with Practice Area Lead or Project Manager).
- Maintain a level of approx. 80% Project Designer responsibilities.
- Assign and schedule design tasks to coordinate with weekly Studio schedule and balance workload.
- Provide input on team's performance evaluations to Studio Manager, Director, or Principal.
- Stay alert for HR issues and discuss them with Studio Manager, Director or Principal and the HR Department.
- Mentor studio members on design delivery process & other aspects of Ware Malcomb services.
- Provide guidance to solve problems in meeting deadlines.
- Mentor and train designers, build a positive, collaborative team.
- Understand WM technology and sustainability initiatives and promote within team.
- Attend interviews and presentations to compete for projects.
- Work with Studio Manager and/or Project Manager to estimate hours, in assistance in proposal development.
- Establish and maintain great client relationships on behalf of Ware Malcomb with assigned clients.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years' experience within the field of Architectural Design or Interior Architecture Design
- Experience working on Multifamily projects preferred
- Knowledge of key parameters of various product types for both site design and building design is essential
- Ability to create complete design presentation package is essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field
- AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, SketchUp and Revit skills
- Experience presenting to clients
- Knowledge of building codes
