About the Team  

The Strategic Finance team is a highly collaborative team of 14, working with senior leaders across the organization to drive key decisions. As the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) arm of the Finance division, we leverage a strong understanding of College Board’s economics, a broad range of financial models, and deep relationships with program leaders to manage and analyze a billion-dollar budget. Our work ensures that the College Board’s resources are strategically and sustainably allocated in support of our mission.    

About the Opportunity  

As an Associate Director of Strategic Finance you will contribute to developing and managing the organization's financial strategy; be responsible for Strategic Finance projects; and provide dedicated financial planning and analysis support to smaller divisions within College Board. You will help craft and refine budgets and accurately forecast changes throughout the year. You will consistently use your financial modeling and analytical skills to assist colleagues to provide actionable insights and inform key decisions. Our ideal candidate is passionate about finance, has a base-level understanding of FP&A best practices and is interested in continuing to grow their knowledge. 

You have a demonstrated ability to seamlessly transition between projects and prioritize tasks effectively. You know how to quickly become familiar with different project scopes and contribute effectively; easily integrating into different teams, collaborating and contributing to their success. You are comfortable with navigating ambiguity and working to get clarity. In this role, you will:  

Engage in Strategic Finance Projects (75%)   

  • Embed with various divisions, working with strategic finance leads to gain familiarity with key products and systems, revenue and expense drivers, and market trends  

  • Assist in a variety of analytical work streams across divisions and help generate recommendations that drive sound business and strategy decisions. Projects may include long-term modeling, business case development, and budgeting and targeted cost reduction exercises 

  • Support the development and communication of financial projections and performance reports in collaboration with program and Finance colleagues 

  • Analyze and summarize key performance indicators, recent historical trends and future projections to ensure a shared understanding across stakeholders 

  • Contribute to the development of strategic finance reports, tools, and other shared resources    

 

Conduct Budgeting & Forecasting (25%)  

  • Provide dedicated financial planning and analysis support to 1-2 smaller divisions  

  • Drive the budget and forecasting processes in partnership with program leadership 

  • Proactively design and deliver custom strategic financial reports, outlining actionable insights 

  • Leverage data to ensure key assumptions are accurately reflected, and identify risks and opportunities 

  

 About You  

You have: 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial analysis and modeling; FP&A, business intelligence, or strategy or consulting roles preferred  

  • Strategic and creative thinking skills and exceptional attention to detail 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related technical field  

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, experience in financial modeling and preparing business cases  

  • Strong communication and customer service skills 

  • Developing understanding of corporate finance   

  • Advanced MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills  

  • Experience with financial planning systems preferred (e.g., Workday Adaptive Planning)  

  • The ability to prioritize and work independently with various teams and manage multiple time-sensitive projects 

  • The ability to travel to in-person meetings 4-6 times/year 

  • You are eligible to work in the United States of America
