The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including United States Space Force, United States Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.

The Space Systems Architect Division works directly with US Space Systems Command (SSC) including the Space Systems Integration Office and SSC Chief Information Office to provide cross-program integration, engineering, and architecture support for the United States Space Force. The Enterprise Cybersecurity & Integration (EC&I) organization is committed to delivering expert knowledge in various domains of cyberspace, such as cybersecurity, program protection, cryptography, data governance & architecting, and software.  As the Senior Project Engineer/Project engineer, you will be at the forefront of providing leadership and expert technical advisory to the SSC/CIO. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in cybersecurity and some project management skills.

Work Model: This position’s work model is hybrid.  The employee will report on-site at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo at least 3 days a week, with additional on-site presence dependent on customer needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Engage proactively and strategically with stakeholders across the space and cybersecurity communities to develop and articulate security architecture strategies and methodologies aimed at reducing cybersecurity risk to space systems.
  •  Lead and/or contribute to the development of cybersecurity policies and implementation guidance for space systems.
  • Coordinate, monitor and advise on assigned SSC/CIO cybersecurity initiatives from inception through completion.
  • Identify and lead matrixed Aerospace engineering staff and project teams for specified projects and studies.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of DoD and DAF security regulations and frameworks for designing systems and processes.

This position is available as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer.

What You Need to be Successful Project Engineer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor or higher degree from an accredited technical program in engineering, computer science or other applicable degree
  • 8 years of related relevant professional experience in scientific or engineering positions, with at least 4 years in the cybersecurity discipline
  • Knowledge of defense-in-depth strategies, zero-trust models, identity and access management (IAM), risk assessment, and vulnerability assessment techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NIST Risk Management Framework, NIST Cybersecurity Framework and other relevant DoD guidelines
  • Experience with evaluating and fielding cybersecurity solutions or performing cyber operations.
  • Willing to travel domestically approximately 10%.
  • This position requires a SECRET clearance and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to obtain additional clearances, which are issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to acquire a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the Senior Project Engineer requires:

  • 12 years of related relevant professional experience in scientific or engineering positions, with at least 8 years of progressive experience in cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking concepts from frameworks and applying them practically to the design of a security solution.
