Job Description: RED Postdoctoral Fellow    BioMarin is a world leader in delivering therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with serious or life-threatening rare genetic diseases. We target diseases that lack effective therapies and affect relatively small numbers of patients, many of whom are children. These conditions are often inherited, difficult to diagnose, progressively debilitating and have few, if any, treatment options. BioMarin will continue to focus on advancing therapies that are the first or best of their kind.
    The Research and Early Development (RED) organization at BioMarin conducts trail-blazing research to enable preclinical drug development for patients with genetic diseases in the: cardiovascular, hematology, musculoskeletal, and central nervous system therapeutic areas. Our portfolio of pre-clinical, clinical, and commercial molecules includes small molecules, peptide and protein biologics, oligonucleotides and AAV gene therapy. We collaborate with world-class academic investigators and centers and a diverse array of internal partners.

We are currently seeking qualified and motivated individuals to join BioMarin as a Postdoctoral Fellow in one of the following departments within RED:     Research: Musculoskeletal, Hematology, Cardiovascular, Neuroscience, Genomics, Gene Editing, Modality, or Animal Resources.    Translational Sciences: Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Immunology, or Bioanalytical Sciences    Fellows will be matched to one department within RED for a two-year term.  While gaining research experience, fellows will also have opportunities to learn about other BioMarin business units including Regulatory, Pipeline and portfolio Strategy, Clinical Development, and Medical Affairs.        To Apply    Along with your CV/resume, please submit a Letter of Intent. Your Letter of Intent should include the Research or Translational Science department(s) (noted above) you’d like to join and a description of the areas of research or drug development you’d like to pursue during the fellowship.     Responsibilities    
  • Design and conduct experiments or studies in collaboration with the Fellowship advisor and/or RED or Clinical colleagues to identify and explore new disease biology, indications, modalities, or technologies, or to advance a pipeline program or platform.
  • Provide scientific and intellectual input to guide project-related proof-of-concept and investigative efforts within the context of interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Where appropriate, initiate, direct and execute the development, optimization, and qualification of robust assays.
  • Analyze data with applicable bioinformatics tools/scientifically sound interpretation and present data at group/departmental meetings.
  • Troubleshoot experiments based on a thorough understanding of assay principles.
  • Author technical reports and SOPs associated with the assays developed and qualified.
  • Contribute to study reports and manuscripts.
  • Provide scientific support to collaborating functional groups, as needed.
  • Work with junior research associates and scientists on experimental design, troubleshooting, assay optimization and data interpretation, where applicable.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of relevant state-of-the-art scientific principles and theories.
  • Participate in exploratory studies driving the evaluation of state-of-the-art technology platforms, and innovative upgrades for existing assay platforms.
  • Identify, develop and maintain relationships with contract research organizations to maximize project productivity and assure inclusion of latest scientific thinking and guidelines in the research plan.
  • Contribute to the peer review process, both internally and externally, to help assure BioMarin research is conducted at the highest level of quality, integrating business and development objectives.
  • Make meaningful contributions to the scientific literature and/or conferences.
  • Participate in at least one governance meeting and/or regulatory engagement on a pipeline program.
  • Present at/participate in program/platform strategy meetings.
Opportunities for project-based rotations, as appropriate (within or outside of the department) based on the Fellow’s interests and corresponding business needs.        Education Requirements    Completion of a doctoral degree in a relevant scientific discipline within three years of the program start date (June 2026); no industry experience required.         General Requirements

  • Robust track record of demonstrating self-initiative/motivation.
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills
