The Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank (DSHB) is seeking a Research Assistant to join our team.


This position supports the DSHB’s mission to provide validated antibodies to the global biomedical research community. The successful candidate will contribute to antibody validation workflows and recombinant antibody production, working closely with scientific staff and principal investigators relevant to grant-supported research.
 

This role involves working with multidisciplinary teams including scientific and business staff as well as external stakeholders to develop solutions that enhance the use of antibodies for biomedical research community. This is a 12-month specified-term position that is grant-funded, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform research activities based on established protocols related to monoclonal antibody validation and recombinant antibody generation.
  • Generate and characterize knockout cell lines using genome editing for use in 
    antibody validation. 
  • Conduct experiments following standard operating protocols, including cell culture, transfection, and Western blot/Immunofluorescence/Immunoprecipitation validation.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to reports and publications.
  • Order supplies, maintain regulatory documentation (e.g., IRB, IACUC), and help ensure compliance with safety and quality assurance standards.
  • Collaborate with other lab members and contribute to a positive team environment.

Qualifications

 

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in biomedical laboratory research, particularly in antibody validation or protein expression.
  • Strong professional organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques (DNA, RNA, Protein analysis) and data analysis and computational tools.
  • Valid drivers’ license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with mammalian cell culture, recombinant antibody expression systems, or antibody purification.
  • Experience with immunofluorescence and high-throughput image analysis.
  • Experience in a dynamic research environment.
  • Interest in contributing to open science and reproducibility in biomedical research.
