Assistant Principal Application Process
Assistant Principal applicants must demonstrate their accountability for the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) by submitting the following materials:
- A current resume
- Hold a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate/License with an Administrator I endorsement by March 1, 2026.
- A 5-slide PowerPoint presentation highlighting your readiness for a principalship.
The PowerPoint presentation serves as the initial screening process for applicants. Those who successfully advance to the second round will be invited to an interview between February 17 and February 27, 2026.
Assistant Principals are accountable for the effective implementation of the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) [Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) Rubric].
This presentation should follow the rubric above, highlighting the work you have done in your career related to each indicated standard, and explaining how this work has impacted your school community and prepared you for an assistant principalship with Charles County Public Schools.
- Slide 1: An embedded video (no longer than 2 minutes) introducing yourself, highlighting why you are pursuing the position for which you are applying, and explaining why you are the best candidate for this position. Exemplary responses will also include specific examples of leadership and will clearly indicate how this work impacted student achievement and school success.
- Slide 2: Preparatory/formative leadership experiences related to PSEL Standard 5: Community of Care & Support for Students
- Slide 3: Preparatory/formative leadership experiences related to PSEL Standard 6: Professional Capacity of School Personnel

Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate/License with Administrator I endorsement by March 1, 2026.
- Minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory teaching experience.

- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
- Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate instructional and curricular methodologies.
- Commitment to the mission of Charles County Public Schools.
- Demonstrated successful leadership in educational activities.
- Understanding of effective schools’ research and demonstrated effort to implement the research findings into the administration of a school.
- Understanding of diverse student populations.
