Department Overview: In this position, you will be part of TASC’s Center for Health and Justice (CHJ), which provides training,
technical assistance, and research to inform public policy and advance evidence-based practice at the
intersection of public health and justice. CHJ partners with program leaders, policymakers, and
researchers across the country and offers solutions to improve communities’ public health and safety.
Summary: The Director of Special Projects manages an assigned portfolio of activities related to CHJ’s consulting,
training, and technical assistance across all of CHJ’s departments (Deflection, Health and Justice
Initiatives, International, Research and Evaluation), and applies their knowledge to support communities
increase public safety-to-community behavioral health linkages, reduce recidivism, and support
community recovery. The Director coordinates with both internal and external partners, agencies,
consultants, trainers, and organizations regarding CHJ’s consulting and training activities, and business
development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs high-level consulting, training and technical assistance, both on and off site, as
- required by contracts, as both an individual contributor and collaboratively with an internal
- and/or external team.
- Supports the development of training content, project-related written materials
- (newsletters and other publications), multimedia products (webinars, podcasts, and
- toolkits), and presentations based on identified project needs, and that include relevant
- evidence-based and promising practices.
- Develops and provides project specific documentation, narratives, and budgets, in
- accordance with TASC policy and external funder requirements.
- Ensures the timely completion and delivery of quality consulting and training products.
- Leads and supports the preparation and management of proposals for new business
- opportunities, and through the sound application of excellence in consulting, training, and
- technical assistance.
- Promotes and coordinates CHJ’s work through the development and delivery of
- educational presentations both virtually and in-person to internal and external audiences,
- including at national conferences.
- Engages internal and external stakeholders, including companion agencies and
- organizations (state, federal, non-profit, etc…), to identify qualified subject matter experts
- and trainers to respond to consulting and training requests, and to identify business
- development leads.
- Coordinates, as appropriate, with the TASC Business Development staff
Requirements
Our Ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master degree in public health, public policy, social work, criminology, or related field preferred.
- Six to nine years of experience in relevant fields or equivalent combination of education and experience, including three to five years of experience in the field of deflection in a supervisory or management position.
- Experience in the field of criminal justice is required.
- Related fields must be directly applicable to deflection and may include professional experience in fire and EMS, addiction treatment, and recovery supports.
- Experience managing state or federal grants, including preparing programmatic and financial reports, budgets, statement/scopes of work, and grant award modifications, as well as submitting reports via online platforms.
- Experience providing consulting, training, and TA services.
- Experience facilitating meetings and workshops of multidisciplinary groups and demonstrated experience and comfort with public speaking to large audiences
