Scope of Position

The Clinical Engineering department is responsible for assuring that the patient care instrumentation used within the Medical Center is safe and effectiveThis involves all aspects of medical equipment asset management including systems planning, pre-purchase assessment, acquisition, installation, functional verification, incorporation into the clinical environment, routine maintenance, corrective maintenance and scheduled updates as appropriate. The Clinical Engineering department works closely with clinicians to identify and address issues involving medical systems applications. The Clinical Engineering staff works closely with hospital administration, finance and procurement to achieve the best value for medical equipment, while coordinating with Facilities Services and Information Technology to insure systems compatibility.  

 

Position Summary

Under general supervision or direct supervision by the Service Manager or Director, the Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMET) coordinates with clinicians the planning, design, development, implementation, functionality and evaluation of free standing and integrated patient care equipment and systems that support and enhance clinical practice and diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring requirements for improved patient outcomes. The BMET acts as a resource with clinical knowledge and/or technical/computer expertise to coordinate and provide support for all new and current applications, including hardware and software upgrades applicable to all patient care equipment and systems. The BMET assists in the analysis, design, testing and implementation of patient care equipment/ systems and solutions. Conducts assessments of the clinical environment and identifies opportunities for equipment/system implementations, and may act as a facilitator for those changes in the clinical environment. Works with appropriate business partners and senior clinical staff to advise end-user training on clinical applications to ensure understanding of functionality. 

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Associate degree or certificate in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent degree program with no experience.

OR

Associate degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent degree program AND internship experience.

OR

Completion of military technical training program in electronics, electro-mechanics or biomedical technology, or equivalent degree program.
