About the role

Overview

The Agency of Education (AOE) is hiring an Education Programs Coordinator I to assist with Project AWARE, a grant-funded, limited-service position, to support systemic transformational change efforts in addressing students' social, emotional, mental health, and academic needs. The primary function of this position will be to support the VT AWARE Lead Coordinator at the Vermont Department of Mental Health (DMH) with the day-to-day management of a $9M federally funded project to coordinate and expand the state's efforts to develop sustainable infrastructure for school-based mental health (SBMH) programs within the Vermont Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (VTmtss) Framework. 

 

The Project AWARE Coordinator will:

  • support the VT AWARE Lead Coordinator at the DMH with the day-to-day management of a $9M federally funded project to coordinate and expand the state's efforts to develop sustainable infrastructure for school-based mental health (SBMH) programs within the Vermont Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (VTmtss) Framework. 
  • engage in regular contact with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) Project and Finance Managers to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies. 
  • co-facilitate state-level and local-level teams to provide intensive support and resources for three Local Education Agencies and their local Designated Mental Health Agencies to develop sustainable infrastructure for school-based social, emotional, and mental health supports within the VTmtss Framework.
  • support the VT AWARE Lead Coordinator (DMH) to coordinate efforts to leverage national and state funding and experts/leaders in implementing practices.
  • inform the statewide structures for the scale-up and sustainability of mental health and wellness supports within VTmtss Framework. 
  • collaborate with key personnel within the project, external entities within state agencies, and community providers. 
  • schedule and facilitate regular meetings to ensure the project performs the proposed activities and achieves the goals.
  • prepare and submit required federal reports; ensure that data for the evaluation plan is collected and reported as required. 
  • work with DMH's business and grants division to create and oversee the funding agreements, properly account for federal funds, and document costs so to minimize the chances of any audit findings and comply with all state and federal regulations.
  • attend the VTmtss Team meetings to collaborate and coordinate efforts to provide the expertise, tools, and resources to the three grant recipients to reach the systems improvement and integration of mental health into the VTmtss Framework-related goals of this grant. 

 

The VTmtss Team is looking for a teammate who can:

  • facilitate conversations with partners who may have diverse perspectives.

This position, Education Programs Coordinator I (Job Requisition #49646), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized through 09/29/2028. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, or related field AND four (4) years or more at a professional level in education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more of experience as an Education Consultant III with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.
