Under general supervision, supervises, coordinates, and schedules automotive/diesel work for the Tulsa County Highway District by performing the following duties.Job Description
All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Responsible for determining maintenance priority, scheduling automotive/diesel work and making work assignments.
• Determine the preventive maintenance schedule for equipment.
• Examine parts and determines the need to either repair or replace part.
• Inspect equipment to determine the cost effectiveness of repair and/or replacement of shop equipment and vehicles.
• Evaluate and reviews employee performance; may make decisions involving hiring, salary increases; provide training to personnel; inspects work quality and notes special problems; maintain on going shop security, safe working conditions and adherence to shop policies and procedures.
• Execute personnel policies in accordance with established procedures.
• May operate heavy construction machinery or equipment.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Skill in the supervision and coordination of automotive/diesel maintenance and repair; in using personal computers; in use and operation of tools and equipment used in repair, painting and body work.
Knowledge of personal computers; of methods, materials, equipment and operation of automotive/diesel repair shops; of automotive/diesel maintenance, testing and repair; of inventory techniques; of operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines; of the hazards of the work and proper safety methods to deal with these hazards, and of Tulsa County policies and procedures; and of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to plan, organize and control the work of others; to diagnose defects in equipment; to supervise and train employees; to communicate in a clear, precise, and concise manner with subordinates; to maintain records and prepare reports; to deal tactfully with others; and to determine most effective cost of parts and materials.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 3 to 5 employees in the Highway Maintenance Shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four year high school supplemented by courses at Vo-Tech or trade school in automotive/diesel repair equal to junior college; and over five years of responsible experience in the field of automotive/diesel repair and maintenance including one year in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education or experience, substituting one year of satisfactory full time paid employment for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of two years.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, ratios, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
