About the role

About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and accomplished Safety & Security Certifications Specialist to play a critical role in the development, assessment, implementation, and verification of our client’s Safety and Security Certification program. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in managing and coordinating certification processes, ensuring compliance with safety and security standards, and supporting program integrity. Responsibilities include overseeing data management, document control, and technical support, as well as tracking and validating agency and division-level plans, manuals, and certification verification reports to drive program excellence and operational safety.

This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in the greater Washington DC metro area.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and input of data for certification and verification reports and document tracking within the Safety and Security Certification Program.
  • Oversees document management and control functions for all safety and security certification plans, manuals, design criteria, guidelines, and reports, ensuring thorough organization and accessibility.
  • Conducts comprehensive reviews of design and construction submittals, performing code analyses of municipal, state, and national regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares evaluations and recommendations for hazard analysis, critical or certifiable items, and verification reports to meet certification program requirements.
  • Maintains and updates sections of certification documentation. Provides technical oversight to staff and consultants involved in the section areas and supports start-up and testing phases of projects.
  • Coordinates with local officials, preparing reports and requests for concurrence to ensure regulatory alignment.
  • Responds to audits and produces status updates as needed.
  • Participates in various committees and professional meetings.
  • Stays informed about emerging trends and developments related to safety and security certification, ensuring consistent application of processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Upholds compliance with applicable state and federal laws, agency rules, and regulations, while fostering accountability and alignment with organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) certificate.
  • 5+ years of experience in safety and quality assurance programs that includes responsibility for system safety, design, and construction reviews.
  • Previous experience working with safety and security certification programs in the transit industry.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations that are applicable in the transit industry.
  • Knowledge of industry standard guidelines for transit safety certification.
  • Knowledge of mandated safety program rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety codes, transit codes, and references of standard safety and operations practice in transit and non-transit environments.
  • Knowledge of recent developments, current literature, and information related to safety rules and regulations.
  • Experience with industry standard construction management software (e.g., Bluebeam, RSMeans, etc.) 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Safety and Security Director, Certified Safety Manager, or Certified Safety Executive (World Safety Organization - WSO)
  • Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) certificate.
  • Experience with large heavy civil or transit programs ($500M+).

The salary range listed for this role is $90k-$135k/yr ($43-$6
