Position Summary
The electronic hand surgery book is an exciting project funded through the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) under the leadership of University of Wisconsin hand surgeons. The project aims to improve patient access to hand and upper extremity care by creating a concise, practical manual that helps hand care teams optimize their entire team's efficiency, triage, and retention of high-quality staff.
We are seeking a reliable student project coordinator to support the development of the multi-author educational resource. The coordinator will keep the project organized from author outreach and manuscript collection through formatting and final compilation. This role is well suited to a graduate student interested in academic medicine, medical education, publishing, health administration, or project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the project timeline, task list, author roster, manuscript tracker, and related project files.
- Schedule periodic virtual meetings: prepare agendas, capture decisions and action items, and follow up on assigned tasks.
- Coordinate professional outreach to physician-authors and other contributors regarding assignments, deadlines, revisions, and missing materials.
- Receive, label, organize, and version-control chapter manuscripts, figures, tables, permissions, and supporting files.
- Apply consistent Microsoft Word styles and formatting; manage headings, tables, references, and tracked revisions.
- Compile reviewed chapters into the final electronic book and complete quality-control checks for consistency and completeness.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Current enrollment as a student; graduate student preferred.
- Prior experience coordinating a research, academic, publishing, healthcare, or other multi-contributor project.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word for document formatting and tracked revisions.
- Experience maintaining project trackers in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Experience managing deadlines and deliverables for multiple contributors.
- Availability for approximately 12 months and for periodic virtual meetings.
Preferred Background
Relevant study or work in public health, health administration, health services research, medical education, communications, English or professional writing, library and information science, business, project management, academic medicine, research administration, publishing, or healthcare administration.
