Senior Design Engineer, Substations

The team specialises in the design and specification of high voltage substations, both AIS and GIS, from 10 kV to 400 kV. This is a technical role offering the successful candidate opportunity to develop their skills and have a significant impact on substation design in Ireland.</p> <p> </p> <p>We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join us on our journey to a Brighter Future</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>Development of new substation standard layouts from concept to construction stage.</li> <li>Regular attendance at substations project sites to see first-hand the issues that drive and influence the design.</li> <li>Technical Management of contracts with equipment manufacturers.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Experience</p> <p> </p> <p>Working as part of this dynamic team, you will always have new challenges and new problems to solve – working together is key.  You will have the autonomy to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems with the support of your colleagues.</p> <p> </p> <p>Essential</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of 5 years’ experience in primary (high voltage) substation design, with an understanding of all elements of design and construction and of the underlying safety principles</li> <li>A knowledge of CAD design packages</li> <li>An ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities</li> <li>A flexible approach to work and willingness to travel to substations</li> <li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>Desirable</p> <ul> <li>A full clean Irish/EU driving licence</li> <li>Knowledge of substation control and protection system design</li> <li>Experience with modelling design applications</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p> </p> <p>Essential</p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience </li> </ul> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Location</p> <p> </p> <p>Your base will be at one of our offices situated at One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate Cork.</p> <p> </p> <p>ESB is committed to offering flexibility in ways of working and we call that Smart Working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible and remote ways of working.
