Brown and Caldwell has an opportunity for a Civil/Mechanical Engineering Intern to spend a summer working with our Design Services team to support our Irvine, California office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Detailed Description:

How Will You Make an Impact?

Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team’s projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include:

  • Wastewater treatment plant upgrades
  • Pump Station designs
  • Water and/or Reuse treatment projects

As a Civil/Mechanical Engineering intern, you can expect your experience to include the following:

  • Work closely with project manager and other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil, environmental, and/or mechanical engineering principles and other related activities for water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (e.g., drafters, designers, and other engineers).
  • Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Perform Revit and AutoCAD edits to existing models to address Engineer’s changes.
  • Collect and record data and documentation to inform design decisions.
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and visualization.
  • Provide engineering services during construction.
  • Participate in field work, such as site investigations and observations.
  • Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
  • Adhere to Brown and Caldwell’s quality assurance/quality control process.

This position is required to work fully in our Irvine, California office 5 days per week, with exceptions for occasional site visits requiring local travel. 

Desired Skills and Experience:

To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

What Must Our Candidate Have?

  • Attending an accredited university in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Mechanical/Environmental/Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of Revit and/or Civil 3D software.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Look Like?

  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts 
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills 
  • Self-starter, results-oriented, and ability to work under tight deadlines 
  • Ability to work both independently and on large coordinated teams 
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work at various sites 
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems 
  • Proficiency in standard software including MS Office, Outlook, and Bluebeam 
  • Familiar with creating models and sheet layout using Revit software.
  • EIT preferred
  • Graduate students in pursuit of a Master of Science degree in required degrees above also considered.
