Job Summary:
The Observation Unit Tech assists the nursing and medical staff by performing selected procedures and tasks for the care of the Observation Unit patients. They also perform duties as Unit Secretary/monitor tech, thus having both a clinical and clerical aspect to their role. All functions must be within the scope of training and instruction received and is under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this position. Registered nurses may perform other duties, not specified in this document and specific functions may change as professional practice and standards evolve.
- Communicates effectively to enhance unit
operations - Transcribes orders according to policy and
procedure - Maintains the Medical Record
- Documents appropriately and according to
policy and procedure on the medical record - Enters and transmits computer system information to other departments accurately and in a timely manner
- Documents and communicates information
regarding patient rhythms and oxygen saturations - Initiates cardiac monitoring and maintain
equipment and supplies
Minimum Requirements:
- BLS within 90 days
- Monitor Tech course completion within 90 days
