Senior/Partnerships Manager, OA Agreements
New York – Hybrid working model
With holistic knowledge of the OA market and institutional landscape (particular Americas focus), the Partnerships Manager, OA Agreements will contribute to the growth of Springer Nature OA Agreements and the building of key partnerships in the region. They will provide commercial teams with guidance and OA expertise throughout the OA agreement sales cycle and facilitate best practice in planning and rolling out the regional pipeline and strategy.
Main responsibilities:
- Maintain oversight of Hybrid OA (Transformative) Agreements in the region, guiding sales teams through processes, supporting contract negotiations and agreement setup. Includes:
- OA agreement discussions, modelling and negotiations.
- Providing OA expertise and education
- Supporting communication of Springer Nature’s position
- Analyze and translate relevant data points for use in strategy, proposals and post-sale discussions.
- Maintain accurate reporting processes, procedures and OA Agreement pipeline.
- Work openly and in conjunction with internal stakeholders to identify and develop commercial opportunities aligned with the regional strategy.
- Meet specific KPIs as set by Management.
- Provide management with regular commercial updates.
- Gather and share market intelligence and partner feedback within the business to develop strategy, models and technical enhancements.
- Understand and keep up-to-date with current OA and scholarly communications’ market
- Participate through speaking engagements at conferences, summits, workshops.
- Cultivate relationships with key OA stakeholders at institutions, consortia, and funders in the Americas.
- Reinforce Springer Nature’s position as a trusted partner in OA agreement discussions, supporting OA revenue growth for both Fully OA and Hybrid and exploring further opportunities for partnerships.
Required skills and experience:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- 3 years minimum experience with an STM or academic publisher
- Good understanding of the OA market, particularly related to OA agreements
- Commercial background: consultative sales / business development / account management experience – managing customer relationships, negotiations and pipelines
- Ability to analyze and translate data points - good knowledge of Excel
- Able to gather, understand and respond to (internal and external) customer and market needs
- Confident communicator with the ability to interact with external and internal contacts at all levels
- Assured and confident when public speaking at external events (customer and general market)
- Demonstrates a high level of initiative and self-motivation
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Highly computer literate and with strong numeracy skills
Senior Partnership Manager must have:
- 5+ years' experience industry experience
- Experience working independently to develop strategies
- Implementing and driving strategy that will impact the business long-term
