Claims Representative Senior - Liability (Large Loss)

This position will be located in Sentry's Stevens Point, WI, Davenport, IA, Middleton, WI, El Paso, TX, Goldsboro, NC, Richmond, VA, or Nashville TN office locations under our hybrid work model.
What You'll Do:
As a Claims Representative Senior - Liability in our Large Loss Unit, you’ll provide superior service by conducting prompt claim investigations, which includes evaluating coverage, determining liability, and settlement of damages. In addition, you will:
Support customers with empathy and understanding, assisting them through difficult situations and effectively communicating the claims process, the ongoing claim status, and decisions, including the reasoning behind them.
Verify coverage by thoroughly reviewing the policy and interpretating policy terms, conditions, and language. This may require working with coverage counsel on complex policy or contract interpretation up to and including the filing of declaratory judgments. Deny coverage where coverage doesn’t exist.
Evaluate liability by taking recorded statements from involved parties and witnesses, reviewing police reports, and compiling other pertinent evidence. Negotiate or deny liability based on the investigation outcome.
Evaluate physical damage and bodily injury claims based on estimates, photographs, appraisals, medical reports, medical bills, and other evidence. Work closely with medical providers, repair shops, automobile appraisers, and/or contractors to facilitate necessary and related services or repair work.
Establish timely reserves based on the ongoing liability and damage assessments. Negotiate property damage and bodily injury settlements with policyholders, claimants or attorneys, and other insurance carriers to resolve matters within the evaluation. Timely pay claims within assigned authority limits.
Manage a case load of files, most of which will be bodily injury files of mid–level severity and complexity, which may include Sentry Early Warning System (SEWS) level injuries. Work with legal counsel and the insured to appropriately review and handle complex time limited demands and the defense of litigated files.
Comply with industry regulations, legal requirements, and internal policies through thorough documentation of all decisions, correspondence, and discussions that occur throughout the life cycle of the claim
What It Takes:
Bachelor’s degree or related experience
3+ years of related work experience
Thorough claims knowledge of claims and claims processes
Ability to review and analyze complex documents, insurance policies, coverages, medical reports, and insurance regulations
Ability to make appropriate claim decisions, prioritize, and manage workload
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to handle conflict and negotiate resolutions
Technology aptitude
