Position Information:
NWHSU is pleased to announce an exciting opening for an Accounting Assistant - Accounts Payable to join our finance team. This position is responsible for the processing and payment of all NWHSU accounts payable, assuring that the expenses are recorded to the appropriate cost center. In addition to payment processing, this position is the University's first review for appropriateness of the expense and will also be responsible for processing university credit card expenses and assist the Controller and CFO with ad hoc requests. Finally, with a small team, segregation of duties also calls for this position to receipt and track inbound cash and report accordingly. This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative team, work closely with other university departments and the flexibility to work partially remote in a respectful, inclusive and supportive environment.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible opportunity.
Work Location: Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work 1-2 days per week remotely; must live local and be able to come to campus as needed.
Duties:
- Manage accounts payable processes including printing checks, generating ACH's, ensuring accuracy of invoices and payments, and mailing out checks
- Process credit card statements, including gathering backup documentation and correctly coding expenses to the General Ledger.
- Contact vendors to obtain missing invoices and W-9's
- Process daily incoming mail including copying and logging checks and verifying and logging deposits.
- Verify and log clinic and retail deposits
- Reconcile AP balances monthly
- Monitor petty cash use and reconcile monthly.
- Other projects as assigned
What you need to have?
- High school diploma, required
- Associate degree or two-year program in related field, preferred
- 1-3 years accounts payable experience, required
- Basic understanding on 1099 reportable payments
- Experience in higher education, preferred
Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Mathematical literacy and ability to analyze and communicate financial data.
- Minimum intermediate Excel skills and basic skills in Word and Outlook.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Collaborative work style with a goal of continuous quality improvement.
