Hiring ranges -
System Engineer: $110,000 - $122,000 annually
Sr. System Engineer: $121,000 - $134,000 annually
System Engineer Job Description
The System Engineer position is a member of the infrastructure team that reports to the Infrastructure and Support Services Supervisor. This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of a wide variety of technologies including virtualization, authentication, and many other Microsoft based technologies. This position serves as an escalation point for the Service Desk team and works with other IT teams providing internal support and troubleshooting to help resolve technical issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Manages physical server and data storage hardware (SAN).
• Deploys and manages virtual machines.
• Performs daily checks of backups.
• Works with the Service Desk to prepare workstation images in SCCM.
• Manages workstation update processes with Microsoft SCCM.
• Administers on-prem and cloud-based identity stores.
Administers file server permissions and structures.
• Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving various tickets assigned or escalated in the ITSM tool.
• Works with vendor support to resolve technical issues.
• Provides and maintains documentation for systems and related infrastructure.
• Documents system standards and procedures.
• Responsible for the administration tools that monitor critical infrastructure such as networks, servers, and other infrastructure.
• Provides proactive system integrity checks to ensure 24x7 storage and computing system availability.
• Performs as a member of the on-call team.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from the Infrastructure and Support Services Supervisor.
Receives technical direction from the Senior Systems Engineer.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Education/Experience
MCSE preferred.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
Minimum 3 years’ experience administering VMWare ESXi and Storage Area Network (SAN) environments.
Minimum 3 years experience in Active Directory administration.
Minimum 3 years of operating system administration experience with Windows 7/10/11, Window Server 2012/2016/2019, and a basic understanding of Linux server environments.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Driver’s license and good motor vehicle record.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Administration experience managing VMware ESXi virtualization technologies.
• Administration experience performing updates and provisioning storage in SAN environments with ISCSI connectivity.
• Working knowledge of cloud computing environments (Azure/AWS).
• Experience with Microsoft 365 administration (Office 365, Azure AD, etc.).
• Experience with LDAP, ADFS, SAML, OAuth, etc. Okta experience is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft SCCM for software deployments, imaging, and Windows update administration.
• Experience with automating tasks with Microsoft PowerShell.
• Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP, iSCSI, NFS, WINS, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Switching, wireless technologies, and fiber cabling/transceivers.
• Experience with the monitoring tools for critical infrastructure such as networks, Windows Server environments, data storage, and backup/recovery system performance.
• Customer service oriented.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues in a manner that is understandable to end users.
