About the role

Our "Professional Service Robots - outdoor" group develops mobile outdoor robots for agriculture and logistics processes that are used in various (industrial) environments. One development focus is on the cognition of the robots, for example to navigate in complex environments and perform complex processes reliably.
As a developer for map fusion and context-sensitive path planning, your task will be to develop and implement algorithms that enable our robots to navigate efficiently and safely in complex outdoor environments. To do this, you will fuse the environmental data from different map representations and use it within the planning algorithm to generate robust and efficient paths. Our team is working on enhancing the cognitive capabilities of our robots for a reactive and sensitive interaction with their environments. You will therefore work closely in our interdisciplinary team with colleagues from the different areas of navigation to develop integrated solutions within our CURT ecosystem, which consists of different CURT robots (wheel and track-based) and our autonomous navigation navCURT.

What you will do

  • Development of path planning algorithms, including reactive, intelligent coverage planners for context-specific area processing
  • Application-specific interpretation of maps, including dynamic mapping and the fusion of feature maps and multilayer grid maps
  • Development of behavior trees and mission control algorithms to control and monitor robot processes

What you bring to the table

  • Master-Degree in a typical MINT-Study with very good grades
  • Experience with ROS1/ROS2
  • Experience with GIT
  • Knowledge of C++ and/or Python
  • Strong interest in the development and implementation of algorithms
  • Experience with machine learning
  • Enjoy working in interdisciplinary team
  • Good communication and team abilities

What you can expect

  • Interesting and challenging tasks in applied research and development with close contact to industry
  • A high level of trust and independence
  • Extensive qualification measures to expand professional knowledge, qualifications and personal soft skills
  • Freedom to design and implement your own innovative ideas
  • Open and direct interaction between colleagues and managers and our humane and positive working atmosphere offer you a reliable basis for ambitious and productive work
  • Opportunities for early management responsibility and promotion
  • Opportunities for a funded spin-off/start-up
  • First-class test fields and excellent equipment
  • Flexible working hours and home office portions

Do you have children and are worried about balancing family and work? This is a particular concern for us. In addition to flexible working hours, the Institute Center Stuttgart offers its employees access to three daycare centers close to the institute. There is also support in the areas of emergency childcare and homecare/eldercare, the possibility of a mobile office with children and childcare during the holidays.
We offer you a wide range of offers for your personal further training in the areas of leadership, communication, project management, work-life balance, health, culture and sport.
