Medical Coding and Education Lead

Essential Functions:

• Directly oversee coding functions and education of offshore coding teams to ensure calibration and consistency of work product
• Develop coding orientation and training programs in collaboration with coding managers
• Educate coders/new hires on client guidelines, computer systems, and EMRs
• Monitor accuracy of coder work product
• Responsible to be primary liaison for external vendors
• Responsible for working with clients and Coding Managers to develop client specific guidelines, policies and procedures
• Ensure client guidelines, policies, and procedures align with standard coding guidelines
• Ensure coding team is kept current with regulatory and/or client changes through regular communication and development of training materials, when applicable
• Provide consultation and expertise to internal management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of coding education
• Assess the educational needs of coding staff and develop or resource materials to meet those needs
• Develop or resource all required training materials and coding aids for both formal training and use by coders in daily work
• Reliably demonstrate an excellent attitude
• Provide exceptional customer service to external and internal customers/clients and teammates

Minimum Requirements:

• Ability to work evening shift
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with offshore teams
• Credentialed through AHIMA or AAPC
• Strong general understanding of coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS
• Minimum of 3 years current coding and/or audit experience
  • Specialist in pro fee documentation and coding for emergency department physician services
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an educational or training role
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
• Ability to design and develop effective teaching materials and curriculum
• Must be detail oriented and able to follow subjects to resolution
• Must be able to act both independently and as a team member

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with coding software, medical billing systems, and online education platforms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to help coders understand complex coding requirements
• A authentic interest in teaching and mentoring people
• The ability to work with diverse learners and adapt teaching methods accordingly
