About the role

Leveraged Finance and Private Markets Reporter Location New York Business Area News and Media Ref # 10047251

Description & Requirements

Bloomberg News is seeking a leveraged finance reporter to join its high-profile credit team in New York.
You’ll be responsible for covering some of the riskiest debt deals in the leveraged loan and junk bond markets, with a focus on private companies that have become an increasingly important part of the sector amid a boom in private capital. It's a fascinating time on the beat: some businesses are getting into trouble with high interest costs; Wall Street banks and direct lenders are fighting to win deals; and buyout activity is picking up after a drastically weak period for acquisitions.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a competitive and fast-paced environment. You would need to be able to balance breaking news on issuers in speculative-grade debt markets with producing compelling enterprise stories that explain nuances to a broad audience. A proven ability to develop sources across Wall Street is a must, and a knack for sifting through financial documents is encouraged.

A fundamental understanding of corporate finance and debt markets is paramount. The job includes frequent collaboration with reporters who cover related parts of leveraged finance, such as private credit and collateralized loan obligations, as well as those who report on banks and businesses around the globe.

We’ll trust you to:
  • Break news on sales in the leveraged loan and junk-bond markets
  • Develop sources to generate intelligent, high-impact, market-moving scoops
  • Uncover financial details of private companies and their executives
  • Become proficient in analyzing deals and funding markets and explain what it means
  • Talk enthusiastically and authoritatively about your stories on Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Radio and Bloomberg QuickTake
  • Write insightful, thought-provoking stories that add value
  • Collaborate with colleagues across our global newsroom

You’ll need to have:
  • A minimum of four years experience in financial journalism or leveraged finance
  • Deep knowledge of leveraged loans, private credit and CLOs
  • Ability to write quickly and clearly under deadline pressure
  • Ability to generate exclusive, breaking news

To be considered, please submit your application by November 2
