Who will you be working with?

Our best-in-class Compressed Air team maintains deep domain expertise related to the entire compressed air system performance.  Here you’ll interact with various internal and external customers to transform compressed air performance across the transportation industry.  Our global team consist of engineers that work together to address real word challenges, create customer specific solutions, and develop innovative & reliable products. 

How will you make a difference?

The Engineering Manager will provide technical and people leadership to the Compressed Air Systems Engineering Team.  Manager will be responsible for integration and execution of two existing teams.

One team is the locomotive compressed air team responsible for concept development, detail design, and validation for compressed air systems used in the rail industry.  This includes component selection (compressors, air dryers, reservoirs, piping, sanding, rail cleaners, etc.), packaging/routing, achieving locomotive performance criteria as demonstrated through analysis & validation testing.

The second team is the US based compressor component design team.  Responsible for production, service, and reliability programs for existing product basket and install base.  As well as strategic vision and technological advances for new product development, introduction & product improvement programs.    

Manager in this role will be responsible for ~12-15 direct reports located in both the United States and India.  The two teams have historically been independent groups, manager will be responsible to improve knowledge sharing and resource optimization for future success. 

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in the engineering and product development domains ideally in railway, but automotive and aerospace may be considered.

  • Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs or on locomotives.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work in a cross-functional, global team environment with demonstrated drive & leadership skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of product design and validation approach.

  • Demonstrated experience in influencing at all levels of the organization and customer relations.

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Develop a strong and collaborative Engineering Team.  With technical expertise in functional areas by driving innovation, execution excellence and process adherence to Wabtec and international standards/practices.

  • Participate in long-term planning and contribute to the overall business strategy.

  • Partner with Product Management in different P&Ls and Engineering Systems teams to understand available Wabtec technology and match it to the right customer solutions.  Define need for new products vs. leveraging new ones vs. where it make sense to partner with other parts of Wabtec or externally.

  • Lead the employee performance management through goal setting, timely feedback, development plan, etc., Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning.  Develop knowledge transfer and contingency planning.

  • Integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise.

  • Work closely with Production and Testing teams on long term strategy, drawing system incorporation, equipment consolidation/upgrades, build strategy and BOM consolidation.

  • Work closely with Sourcing and Supply Chain teams to ensure strategic partner selection.

  • Own team demand plan via proactive project funding reviews, forecast strategy and linked funding channels.

  • Demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives.

  • Provide support council and recommendations to Section and Executive level management.

  • Provide technical support to Sale, Quality and Marketing teams.
