In this position...
The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations, working without any appreciable supervision, is responsible for the resolution of employee relations issues, such as conflicts, disputes, and disciplinary matters, with fairness and consistency in a timely manner. This role designs standard operating protocols and benchmarks to be implemented for investigations, cases, and mediations, to improve employee motivation. Additionally, the role is a subject matter expert on matters pertaining to employee relations. The role advises leaders and consults with teams on performance management, feedback mechanisms, and delivery, goal setting, workplace conduct, employee retrenchment, etc. to ensure a positive work environment across the organization.
Our U.S. Hourly workforce is essential for delivering the innovative products that are designed to move our organization forward. In this position, you will be a key member of the Rouge Site HR Team. You will oversee the day-to-day functions of the Labor Relations Office. As the Senior Employee Specialist, you will serve a vital role in maintaining positive employee relations, union/management relations, supporting our salary workforce and guiding and coaching a team of employee specialists. It is worth noting, the Rouge Site HR Team has responsibility for five U.S. Plants and other related Rouge business units / groups. The team supports seven local CBAs, as well as the UAW-Ford National CBA.
What you'll do...
- Oversee the daily operations of the labor office to efficiently meet the needs of the Rouge Site customer base
- Lead technical skills training for assigned labor reps
- Manage Outside Contracting, Outplant Scheduling, Project Coordinator, and Master License Tracking for Skilled Trades Rouge Site
- Coach and Counsel labor reps in hourly employee administration across crews/shifts
- Participate in UAW contract negotiations, implementation and/or ongoing administration of the Master and Local Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Coordinate investigations for non protected class complaints and disciplinary action and review summaries for closure meetings.
- Responsible for oversight of union representative compensation
- Investigate and prepare responses to grievances and EEOC complaints
- Supervise hourly personnel recruiting and hiring, Personnel Relations activities and health and safety activities as required
- Build strong relationships with operations partners, Union representatives, HR colleagues and experts, and other business partners to jointly deliver business objectives and resolve issues
- Coach, counsel, and educate salaried operations partners on HR policies, processes, programs and strategies
- Analyze data and use technology to proactively identify and diagnose business needs and process improvements and develop solutions to meet those needs
Must be able to work any shift as needed – including weekends and holidays.
You'll have...
- Bachelor's degree
- 4+ years of Labor Relation experience of increasing responsibility
- 2+ years of Microsoft Office experience to include Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

- Experience working with the UAW or other labor union
- Demonstrated experience delivering HR process improvements
- Proven exceptional conflict management skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
- HR Business Partner experience including project management, change management and/or organizational development
Work Requirements:
- Involves occasional (defined as one-third or less of the time) lifting of no more than 10 pounds at a time. Work is performed primarily in a seated position and entails no significant stooping, standing, climbing, walking, etc. Many sedentary jobs require good use of the hands and fingers for repetitive hand-finger actions. Working conditions occur within low to moderate noise levels related to the use of standard office or classroom equipment.
